Aviation: Following the mission of the Higher Colleges of Technology to provide quality engineering and technology programs critical to the needs of the Nation, Dubai Men's College offers two Higher Diploma programs in Aviation Maintenance Engineering: Airframe and Aeroengine Maintenance Technology and Avionics Maintenance Technology.
Students in both programs spend the first two years studying subjects common to both and as diverse in content as Aviation Legislation (law), Electrical Theory and Practice, Aerodynamics and Flight Theory. In the third and final year of study students specialize in their chosen area of interest. Both programs lead to eventual government licensing as Aviation Maintenance Engineers in the appropriate specialty after a government required working apprenticeship. Approximately 70% of DMC Aviation students are sponsored by and are employees of a variety of private institutions and government agencies including Emirates Airlines, UAE Military and the Sharjah Airwing.
Graduates find employment opportunities in a wide range of settings maintaining, inspecting and servicing aircraft and aviation related equipment ranging from the smallest pleasure and personal aircraft to helicopters, military fighter jets to jumbo-sized airliners. Some use their training and background as a springboard to seek further training as pilots. Others keep to the ground.
Avionics Engineers, specialize in airborne electronic, communications, navigation and computer systems and upon graduating find employment maintaining ground based radio and radar facilities. Airframe and Aero-engine Engineers may find their skills much in demand by non-aviation related businesses as well, particularly in the generation of electricity in remote areas where jet turbine engines very similar to those used on aircraft are often used to generate power.
Whether they use their skills in the air or on the ground graduates find satisfaction and confidence in their high-tech range of engineering abilities and opportunities for employment worldwide.
