The Department of Information and Telecommunication Technologies (ICT) is committed to effectively providing and maintaining information and technical resources in support of student learning and success. ITS also facilitates the implementation and management of supporting technologies used for teaching and administrative purposes.
Functions of the ICT Department
- Support the technology used in teaching and learning.
- Ensure the technology serves the student learning process
- Support college initiatives in the implementation of new technologies
- Support and assist students, staff and teachers in the area of IT technologies
- Manage, develop and maintain the existing technology infrastructure.

The IT Services and operations Helpdesk will be located in the Learning Centre (the one stop shop for technology support), and has the following two zones:
- End User Support Zone
- Network Management Zone
- Web Services & Applications Development (Engineering Block – First floor)
- Audio & Video Services Zone (Engineering Block – E245)
Main Network Room
Room B249 first floor of the Business block. This room hosts the network backbone, telecommunications, data warehouse and our local area network servers.
Auxiliary Network Rooms: To extend the network service across the entire college, there are 13 network rooms. These are restricted areas.

- Multipurpose Hall Videoconference system: room L217 in the LC/TC Block
- State-of-art Auditorium with 1000 seats
- Multipurpose Hall L115: 100 seats

Help Desk and End-user Support
We have a help desk coordinator who will attend to your calls and give you an immediate response. We need your cooperation in logging all requests via an email to firstname.lastname@example.org (at a later stage, online helpdesk will be available through our portal services). However in case of an emergency, i.e. if you have a problem during your class time, then you may call the security or our helpdesk hotline (ext. 111). This will help us keep track of calls and collect statistics to improve our service further.
All requests are prioritized according to the nature of the problem and an IT/AV specialist will be allocated to solve your problems. We do our best to attend to your requests within 16 working hours. The help desk coordinator and the IT specialist will communicate with you until your problems have been resolved.
Working hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Sunday to Thursday), however extended support will be available in the Techno Centre from 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. to attend to IT emergencies. (Ext 111)

Main functions include the development and maintenance of web-based and online applications for academic and administrative needs. Information systems, database management and web services are also handled by this unit.
Laptop and Computer Support
ICT supplies one laptop for each faculty and staff member. In some cases, desktop computer are used by the administrative staff. It is mandatory for all new students to buy a laptop through the college.

- Latest Microsoft OS and MS Office with periodic software and antivirus updates.

Our computer labs are maintained by our IT support specialists. We carry out preventive maintenance and do a routine check of labs every week. You are requested to send an email to email@example.com in case of any break-downs.

Security and Protection
We are responsible for the security and protection of all information technology systems running in the college. This includes systems virus protection, operating systems updates, network security and Internet security.
We manage and maintain a state-of-the-art Gigabit to Desktop Local Network system and we coordinate with Central IT on issues related to the Wide Area network. DMC is a completely wireless campus supporting 802.11 b/g standards (11 and 54 Mbps)

Each staff member is entitled to a private extension number and associated voice mail facility operated by our VoIP system. We operate, maintain and manage the telephone system. (see VoIP - User Guide)
Software and Teaching Tools
In accordance with the college-approved software policy, we purchase, maintain and supply software and hardware needed for teaching.
The ITS department will not be able to support any software that is installed by staff members. Staff members are fully responsible for any damage caused by the installation of any illegal or untested software.
Software borrowed from the college should only be used for educational purposes.
Software installation in labs is carried out once every semester. Your requests must be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org at least two-weeks prior to the start of semester.
As with the tracking of software, all hardware is also tracked by the ICT inventory system. The IT equipment is labeled with a serial no. and an HCT barcode.
All IT/AV asset purchases should be routed through the email@example.com as so that the ITS department can verify the specifications and compatibility with our system requirements.
All hardware borrowed is routed through firstname.lastname@example.org
To ensure accurate inventory records are maintained, you are requested not to move any equipment without informing the ITS department.

We maintain the hardware and software necessary for operation of the internet. Internet access should be used properly for educational purposes. All internet activities are logged for security reasons.
We develop and conduct training for students, staff and teachers in the various computer areas throughout the college. To schedule specific training, please send a request to email@example.com or drop-in to the ICT Helpdesk in the Learning Centre for just-in-time support.
We encourage, support and assist in faculty and students in various research and technology projects.
Support Student Learning
We encourage student involvement with ITS operations. Some Diploma courses (Shadowing Programs) require students to work with our IT specialists to observe and learn. We also offer work placement for the IT students and offer part-time work opportunities for our students.

Video Coverage and Photography
Our Audio Visual team provides support video coverage and photography for all college supported events and for instructional purposes. To book this service, you need to send a request to firstname.lastname@example.org
Auditorium and Multipurpose Hall
Our AV/IT team provides all the technical assistance to support college conferences, events and presentations. For technical support, you need to send a request to email@example.com
Media Production and Re-Production
We provide support for the production of audio video materials for teaching purposes, examinations and college needs. DVD and CD duplication facilities are available within the appropriate provisions of UAE copyright law.
Data Production and Disaster Recovery
We manage backup/restore operations for all data and MIS systems hosted in our Local network area. We have a state-of-the-art backup library that can backup more than 30 TB of data. Backups are carried out on a daily basis and backup data retention is set to retrieve data from the previous three months.
