The Applied Communications Department offers programs that meet international standards, thus producing graduates with a strong foundation in the theoretical and practical aspects of numerous media fields with the adaptability and flexibility to respond to the opportunities of the rapidly evolving national and international environment.

Department facilities include a television studio and radio production facility as well as multimedia Macintosh computer labs. These labs are equipped with the latest versions of media production software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro and a variety of other media production software and hardware. Students can also avail of a media equipment loan facility with SLR cameras and lenses and high definition video cameras available.
A focus on project-based learning is inherent throughout the programs offered. Applied Communications faculty employ innovative teaching techniques by using a hands-on approach in order to optimally prepare students for the professional media production environment that they will enter on graduation.
The Department also makes it a priority to get involved with local and industry events and also get the opportunity to contribute to the Dubai International Film Festival and the Middle East International Film Festival by either submitting work or volunteering. Most recently students have participated in international media events in Qatar and India.
Graduates and current students of the Applied Media program have found employment with MTV Arabia, Emirates National Development Program Executive Marketing Department, Dubai Police, Dubai Press Club, Sama Dubai, Dubai Racing Channel, Dubai Sports Channel, Noor Dubai, Shooftv (www.shooftv.com) and Arab Media Group amongst many others
Student projects produced in the Department have also won awards in a variety of competitions such as Ibda’a Awards (http://www.ibdaa-awards.ae), Emirates Film Competition (http://www.efilmc.ae), Gulf Film Festival (http://www.gulffilmfest.com) and the Sheikh Majed Youth Media Awards.
